Gregory Norton, Music Director
Gregory Norton has been Music Director of the Claremont Chorale since 1993. Under his leadership the Chorale has consistently offered a wide variety of choral music to the
Claremont community and collaborated with musical organizations from the Los Angeles area and beyond. Mr. Norton has for many year conducted choirs and orchestras in community
and church settings in the states of California and Colorado. His performing life has led him from the adobe churches of Santa Fe, New Mexico to the cathedrals of England, and choirs
under his direction have toured Germany, Austria and Mexico. He is a published composer and is frequently invited to write and speak on musical topics. A full-time church musician,
he is Minister of Music at Westwood United Methodist Church in Los Angeles. He holds degrees in conducting
from Chapman College and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California.
Barbara Durost, Accompanist
Barbara Durost joined the Claremont Chorale as accompanist in 2005. She holds degrees in piano performance and pedagogy, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from Claremont Graduate University. She performs frequently as an accompanist. She is currently the Music Director at Claremont United Methodist Church, where she oversees a comprehensive program of vocal and instrumental music. She has served on the faculties of Claremont School of Theology and Claremont Graduate University, and at present, she is a Master Teacher of piano and voice at Claremont Community School of Music. Dr. Durost has been a conductor and a music director for regional and community theaters throughout the country, and she is co-founder and director of Youth Theatre Works, a non-profit community theater program for children and youth in the greater Claremont area.
