... in our Composition Contest!
With just weeks left until the deadline, we have received 98 submissions to the Claremont Chorale’s 2017 Composition Contest! In addition to entries from the USA, we have entries from Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, England (United Kingdom), Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Namibia, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Serbia, and Switzerland.
The guidelines are for music written for an SATB community chorus with occasional divisi and either a cappella or piano accompaniment with text preferred in English. Entries must be received before September 1. Entries that meet the published criteria will be forwarded to a three-judge panel in early September, and they anticipate selecting a winning composition by December 31, 2017.
Judging will be “blind” --- meaning that the composer information is deleted from the scores to avoid any possible influence the composer’s reputation might have. Judges will not receive any ancillary information the composers may have provided, such as performance notes/suggestions or recordings or background information about the composition; the music is to stand on its own.
The winning composer will receive a $1,000 prize, and the composition will be performed as part of the Anniversary Celebration Concert, 19 May 2018.
